The Best Clarinet Teacher for You
Do you want to learn how to play the clarinet? Looking for the best clarinet teacher?
I have 35 years experience specializing exclusively in teaching students of all ages how to play clarinet.
And I am the Solo Clarinetist with the Columbus Symphony. That is the highest level job any clarinetist can have in a professional orchestra.
Why am I the best clarinet teacher?
1- One size does not fit all-
Many clarinet teachers teach the same to all students. But one size does not fit all. Some students learn how to play clarinet by wrote. Some learn to play clarinet through listening. Some learn how to play through thinking. Each student needs a teacher who can understand these skills to learn how to play the best and fastest.
In the first few lessons, I analyze the student's abilities using my 35 years of experience. I then craft a custom program tailored to that student's individual needs. This is why I am unique as a clarinet teacher.
Rather than only "getting to the goal" of playing all the exercises in a particular book, I prefer to teach the most efficient and natural way for a student to learn how to play clarinet. My custom method shows how to play clarinet the best way for YOU!
As the best clarinet teacher, I like to make learning how to play clarinet easy, fun, and also the best!
2- I teach all ages-
-Beginner fun- My beginner students love me because I teach them to laugh and dance through playing clarinet. Much more fun than any other clarinet teacher! But I also know that laughing and dancing is the best way for a clarinet teacher to teach young students, because the students learn better that way.
-Advanced soloists- My advanced students often go on to study with a world renowned clarinet teacher at some famous music schools like Indiana University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
-Adult amateur clarinetists- I also coach university level students and adult professionals, helping them prepare for orchestral auditions or other performance events as needed.
3- I love teaching- I love teaching because I love learning. And learning how to play clarinet is really fun if you have the best clarinet teacher.
All ages are a joy to teach, each with their own unique breakthroughs in learning how to learn, and to expressing themselves from the core of their being.
The best clarinet teacher shows you how to play clarinet and make the best music and have the most fun with the least amount of work! Who wouldn't want that?
4- Learn how to play clarinet the best way!
My teaching includes teaching physical and mental awareness learned from the Alexander Technique. The Alexander Technique emphasizes balance and poise, including proper body coordination, mental and physical attitude and focus. These skills help you learn how to play clarinet faster and better.
I teach privately in Ohio, but I also teach online lessons! Come learn how to play clarinet with me!

Testimonials from studnets- Emily, an advanced high school senior seeking to major in music performance, wrote, "Taking lessons with David Thomas will put anyone on the path to clarinet enlightenment." The following is from Matthew, who recently graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory in Music Performance and went on to study with world renowned clarinet teacher Ricardo Morales. "David is the type of teacher who always wants to find the right method by which to convey his thoughts and ideas to his students. His teaching will always stay with me through my career as a musician." Karen, mother of a 15 year old student named Robin, wrote the following: "I've been trying to give (my daughter) some ideas (about relaxing and letting go), but moms have a hard time transmitting valuable information to a teenage brain. That's why we have to have wonderful people like you to help us raise our kids! Thank you for your intuition and careful noticing of how Robin is. You are very good at this and are helping me be a better parent and more aware of her in a different way." "David is able to find just the right time for a student to work on various aspects of playing, so the student has successes during each lesson, but always leaves with something new to work on." Marcy and Thomas, parents of a High School student named Stephen, wrote, "Our son has shown dramatic improvement in the 18 months he studied with David - we just wish that we had found David years before!"
